Characteristics of Dream visions and dialogue poems

The following book provides a solid introduction to the genre of the dream vision and also gives some attention to allegory as stylistic feature of this:

These visionary poems often take the form of a debate between a central figure and an allegorical figure or figures. An example of this 'dialogue' can be found in Boethius's Consolation of Philosophy and of course in the Body versus Soul poems.
